Artist’s
Statement
Beginning with freeform sketches or color washes, each artwork asserts itself and takes its own path. Most of my images eventually portray figures as representatives of human emotions and imagination, and include references to gardens and the environment as a link to an instinctual world. The images reflect personal ideas abstracted through various media to render them universal. The viewer can then discover interpretations of his or her own.
Biography
After graduating from UT Austin, I traveled to Europe and Morocco. It was an opportunity to live and work for a year in Paris and attend the Atelier Joelle Serve, an independent printmaking studio. I returned to Austin and worked as a freelance illustrator for several years, then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1989. There, I actively participated in many gallery shows and local art organizations. I came back to Austin in 1997, and have continued to create works in painting, drawing, and printmaking media, as well as graphic design and illustration. I have also taught art classes for special needs students.
